PC malfunction detected – GPU illumination and cooling fans activated during PSU power-on sequence.
Hello, I'm just starting with building my first PC and need some guidance. The video shows that when I power on the PSU, a red dot appears on the GPU and the case fans blink in RGB. (Ignore the background noise). I'm not sure if this is normal or a problem. I'm very new to these things and was nervous about turning it on to check for booting. I used an Nvidia adapter and connected two separate VGA cables from the PSU to the adapter. For the RGB fans, I connected all four case fans (14" RGB PWM fans included) to the 5V LED header on the motherboard. My setup includes: Intel Core i5-13600KF 3.5 GHz 14-core processor, Lian Li GALAHAD AIO 360 RGB UNI FAN SL120 58.54 CFM cooler, Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 ATX motherboard, G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32 GB DDR4-3600 CL16 memory, ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVMe drive, Asus TUF GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12 GB video card, Fractal Design Meshify 2 RGB ATX mid-tower case, and EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G6 850W 80+ Gold certified power supply.
The red LED on the GPU suggests insufficient power, which aligns with the system not being active, but power is still passing through if that makes sense.
I believe turning it on should work, likely just supplying power to the PSU and then a small amount reaching the system. Take a deep breath and give it a try

I kept things careful and tried to reattach everything to check if the issue persists. Thank you for giving me the confidence, as I took a deep breath and restarted the PC safely in BIOS. But now there’s another concern. The CPU temperature jumped from 34 to 50 within about 20 minutes in BIOS and keeps increasing. It looks like the paste might not have spread evenly, so I’ll try removing the cooler and reapplying it. Also, I noticed the boot LED on the motherboard came on—its meaning is unclear, but I’ll connect the BIOS screen to investigate further.
It seems you're checking the setup for a power solution. Make sure the cooler is installed properly and that the plastic cover over the CPU block is removed. The thermal paste appears to be pressing firmly against the CPU, and the pump is plugged in correctly with fans spinning. The boot LED shows no bootable device—possibly Windows isn't installed yet. Verify the drive connection; if it's an M.2 card, you may need to configure it in BIOS. Once temperatures are stable, try installing Windows.
I only have an NVME M.2 storage device on this setup. It appears correctly shown in the M.2 section of the BIOS. Windows isn't installed yet, so I'll check the CPU temperatures first. I also overlooked that the GPU red light turns off after booting up, which is a bit frustrating since it stays lit when the PC is turned off. I'll keep you updated on my progress. Thanks!
