PC linked to the identical network as the laptop activates upon closing the laptop lid (Windows 10)
I have a PC and a laptop connected to the same network. The laptop is getting Wi-Fi from the router, while the PC is linked via Ethernet to the same router. I set up a Home group to share files between them, but I noticed the PC would wake up when the laptop lid was closed. After deleting the group, my PC updated and removed that feature. Even though I deleted it, the PC still wakes up when the laptop lid is shut. The laptop also doesn’t consistently enter sleep mode when the lid is closed, which seems connected to the same issue. I’ve tried disabling network settings for shutdown, but I want to keep that option enabled since I sometimes turn on my PC using my phone. I’m looking for possible reasons behind this behavior.
Have you considered resetting your laptop’s network settings before and after reconnecting?
Are you using shared remote folders? This might cause the computer to activate. When you close the lid, it stops the folder from responding to network requests, which triggers the computer to wake up. In the network settings, locate options like "Wake on Magic Packet" and "Wake on Pattern Match" and turn them off.
I was sending some folders and assumed I had unchecked them too. I’ll try again. I want those settings active on the network adapter; I often use my phone to start the PC. Thanks, SupaKomputa—I’ll update you once it works.
Have you tried restarting the PC or checking for background processes that might be causing the issue?
Access control panel > Network and sharing center tap change adapter settings locate your LAN/WiFi adapter, right click > properties tap configure > Advanced tab scroll down and locate: - wake on magic packet - wake on pattern match you should disable both. Next move to Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow this device to wake the computer". If that doesn't work, check BIOS for "wake on lan" option in power options and turn it off.
Thank you for your feedback. I understand your concern about the PC not waking up properly. It’s good to know you’re aware of the situation. Let’s see if there’s another way to resolve this issue without turning off features you rely on. I’ll do my best to help you find a solution that works.
