I enjoy playing games such as Fortnite, Rocket League and Halo. The game occasionally slows down, showing micro stutters. Sometimes it's half a second, and in Fortnite it can even freeze completely. I've reinstalled Windows 11, verified the CPU thermal paste, checked fans, BIOS for updates, and NVIDIA drivers. (The graph in the picture shows Fortnite latency markers.) Also, my CPU spikes to around 80% usage during Fortnite sessions.

Linus mentioned this recently when your computer acts strangely. It seems the RAM might be the issue. Verify it. Make sure you're using the correct unit—one stick per slot.

Check your remaining hardware, focusing on the GPU and RAM. Review the RAM speed with tools like CPU-Z. Do you have two 16 GB modules or one 32 GB module? Examine the GPU activity in-game using software such as Intel PresentMon or MSI Afterburner. Does its usage fall below 99% during stutters? While online game lag can be normal, it usually points to performance issues or network problems.

Fortnite is built with Unreal Engine 5; initializing shaders can take time, and compiling them may lead to stuttering. Other games using UE5 face even more issues.
