Hi there,
My computer started having issues about a year ago after upgrading from 8gb (two sticks) to 16gb (two additional sticks of the same model and speed). Within days, its performance dropped sharply, making it impossible to run basic tasks and causing it to shut down. After several troubleshooting steps, resetting the CMOS battery resolved the problem completely. Since then, the issue has repeated itself over the past year. Now, after a week or two of use, it begins to slow down again, only improving when the CMOS battery is removed.

Yesterday, I ran UserBenchmark and found it extremely slow across all components. After removing the CMOS battery, restarting, and running the test again, my PC now ranks in the 60th percentile or higher in most areas.

I’m wondering what might be causing this recurring problem. It seems like a simple fix by resetting the CMOS works, but it’s frustrating to have to do it repeatedly. I’ve looked into similar issues on forums but haven’t found anyone else experiencing the same thing.

Thanks for your time!

Have you tried replacing the cmos battery with a new one? What is your pc build? Check to see if you have a bios update for your motherboard. If there is an update, and you are confident to do so, replace the cmos battery and update the bios. See if this helps.
