I've got Windows 10 64-bit on a B450F laptop with a 5600x, 3060 graphics card and a 750W power supply. It's been acting up when my desk gets bumped or when my headset lands on the surface, causing the PC to freeze. I usually just restart it, but it keeps freezing. I've had the Corsair Virtuoso for a while now. If I remove and reinsert the RAM sticks, everything works fine. Even after swapping in another set of 8GB DDR4 sticks (one white, one black), the issue persists. Clearing CMOS didn't help. I've unplugged all peripherals, but it still won't boot. The motherboard light is orange, suggesting a RAM problem. I've tried using a different RAM stick, but nothing changes. My HDD is a 970 EVO, paired with a WD Black NVMe and an SSD. TL;DR: no RAM detected, system freezes, only one stick works elsewhere. Tried several fixes, still stuck.
It seems the RAM isn't functioning properly even after clearing the CMOS. It might be an issue with the RAM itself rather than just a configuration problem.
Have you attempted starting with just two of your RAM modules? Consider the desired performance and the manufacturer's specifications. Issues with RAM are frequently fixed by updating the BIOS, so verify if your motherboard supports such updates.
In theory, either option should function; the main focus would be on testing various setups. It seems you overlooked the issue where increasing the PC power leads to freezes, which points more toward a hardware problem rather than a software one. Are you confirming the RAM is fully seated until the clips engage? I’d also think about re-placing the CPU—perhaps one of the pins isn’t making good contact or is bent. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, I’d inspect the motherboard for any loose components, such as soldered parts.
Used two sticks for testing, but it didn’t function the first time. After trying again, they worked. Planning to continue working on it tomorrow.
