Pc initiating output current control power supply, unclear cause
Hello, welcome! I hope you're finding assistance here. To start, my system includes an MSI gaming rig with a trio of RX 6600 graphics cards. It's powered by an MSI B550MX Ryzen 5 5600 with 2x16GB DDR4 RAM at 2666MHz. The motherboard runs at 3600MHz, though it supports up to 4000MHz in XMP mode—XMP isn't working on my powerful Ryzen, so it's turned off. I'm using a Corsair RX 750 Gold 80+ power supply.
The issue began when my PSU started showing OCPS under heavy stress. I checked and found the 6+2 connectors on the GPU were loose, which might have damaged them. I replaced them and it resolved the OCPS temporarily. After a few hours of gaming with DLSS balanced, the problem returned. I tried reseating the connectors and it worked again, but after playing for a while, OCPS flared up once more.
I removed my Xbox 360 controller and OCPS didn't trigger this time, so I suspect a vibration motor issue. I ran a power test on the PSU and it was stable for about 11 minutes, then again for 13 minutes before OCPS appeared. After a restart, the error logs didn't appear—just a crash message with everything intact. No voltage spikes were recorded in the graphs.
My PSU temps stayed under 80°C, and the GPU remained steady at 83-84°C during the OCPS test. This has never happened before, especially after the loose connectors. I'm concerned about overheating since it's been happening for 15-20 minutes during gameplay, even though CPU temps never exceeded 80°C. The GPU fans are all working fine, and the CPU cooler is an aftermarket model with temperatures staying below 80°C.
I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's causing this issue. Thanks a lot! My case is a B550 and I was built in 2018. Only two front and one back fan are functioning, while all three GPU fans are working properly. The PSU button needs to be toggled off and on again to boot up, otherwise the power button doesn't respond.
