They used to be, not anymore... The main appeal was just the cost—cheaper than a PC, which had always been the primary argument since the SNES era. Exclusives were another angle, but those lines have blurred as PCs and consoles became more similar. Back then, consoles were specialized with custom components, while PCs offered flexibility. At one time, consoles actually outperformed PCs, like the PlayStation 1, which also helped launch today’s console market. It was straightforward plug-and-play with a CD/ROM reader and no PC quirks—except for the annoying, cheap lasers.

I used to enjoy both, but stopped playing on consoles after the PS3. Here are my reasons: 1. Online gaming costs you money. 2. You often have to buy old games again just to play them on newer systems (not sure if that still applies). 3. PC offers better performance and visuals (that was one of the original reasons, though it might not always be true now). 4. PC games are more affordable. 5. My PC is powerful enough for work, so using it as a console saves money. 6. As a shooter gamer, I prefer keyboard and mouse over controllers. 7. There are simply more games available on PC.
