In 2010 gaming on PC was still emerging with just about one million players globally. Nowadays it’s booming, especially since 2023. The numbers show a clear rise in interest. What are your thoughts?

In 2010, around one million PCs were used globally is questionable. Access to computers grew a lot in the mid-90s as companies vied for cheaper options. Recently, the pandemic led many to buy devices for remote tasks and learning.

A phone game is now seen as a "game" too, meaning even mothers enjoy gaming... and girls can play all Xbox titles on their PCs. If you check the huge backlog of games available for free on PC, you might find some options—no need to spend much or buy expensive gear like MP3 players, cameras, or extra consoles since games are often too costly. This development appears to follow an expected pace. Communities are expanding. Innovation is progressing in certain regions. Statistics will continue to rise gradually over time.

I don't believe that. I've noticed more discussions about the opposite side. Looking back over the past few years, streaming has grown in popularity and can offer career opportunities. In 2010 it wasn't common; gaming careers were mainly eSports or limited game dev roles. The availability and cost of PC hardware have changed. It's not as strong a path as it was ten years ago, though I think we reached our peak around 2017-2018 after the initial mining boom. After that, manufacturers realized there are people with resources willing to pay more. The pandemic forced many to use laptops and desktops for school, work, and entertainment. That meant if they had the hardware, why not utilize it? Acceptance has shifted. Ten years ago, PC gamers were still seen as quirky types. Consoles were more popular, but still viewed as kid's toys. Now things are very different—everyone has a platform, and many recognize that the end of PC gaming is near.

PC gamers were complaining about how inexpensive games were for a while, and I think when people upgraded they’d sell high-end machines to friends at low prices, spreading the word. You’d rarely see an Xbox or PlayStation game priced under $5 or $1.99 at any GameStop. But during Steam’s summer sale, you could buy a full year’s worth of games for around $100. Or you could grab five old Xbox games and probably already had them played. And mods—really missed them! I was so envious I had Fallout 3 on PlayStation instead of PC because of all the cool YouTube mod videos.

The issue ultimately stems from outdated PC components failing to support older console hardware, especially if you invest in a medium-budget build. You might see performance drop significantly after 1-2 generations, possibly extending to 10-20 years with proper maintenance and temperature control. In some scenarios, this can allow you to enjoy one or two generations of consoles. However, many older systems lose their appeal quickly once they become outdated, making it hard to run modern games.

Consoles shine when you prioritize a fast gaming session after work or for kids. They offer a smooth experience focused on convenience. For those who love customization, PCs provide more flexibility.

Advantages:
- Modding support
- Enhanced visuals
- Consistent frame rates (no strict 30/60 fps limits)
- Stronger backward compatibility
- Wider access to indie titles and broader game selection
- Multiple input methods available
- Improved communication features
- Generally lower costs for games, with cheaper keys in the grey market
- No ongoing subscription required (unless the title uses one)

Disadvantages:
- Higher upfront cost for modern graphics
- Risk of installing cheats or hacks more easily
- Sometimes odd Windows interactions
- Poor console-to-PC port quality
- Certain titles remain exclusive to consoles
