PC frequently restarts to a black screen, leaving no keyboard or mouse input.
Hello, my computer frequently shuts down to a black screen with no keyboard or mouse input, even though the fans are running. It usually restarts 1 to 3 times, but sometimes it only does this once or twice. Last night it restarted 14 times. Occasionally, when I manually restart it, the system goes black as well.
I have recorded several benchmarks, yet the PC still crashes to a black screen. I ran the built-in Windows 10 memory checker (mdsched.exe) and found no memory issues.
I attempted to swap the RAM into a different slot. The GPU was benchmarked using Furmark (1920x1080 Fullscreen, Anti-Aliasing 8x MSAA) and Heaven Benchmark (30 minutes total). During the Furmark test, the GPU remained at 100% with a temperature between 60-65°C.
I rebuilt the PC by pulling the motherboard, GPU, and PSU, then reconfigured the cable layout. I also reinstalled Windows 10, changed the SSD, adjusted the USB ports for the mouse and keyboard, reset the BIOS, and cleared the CMOS.
Reliability Monitor didn’t help; it only reported a critical event with a summary saying "Windows was not properly shut down."
PC specifications: Both CPU and GPU are at 45° when idle.
Processor: Ryzen 5 5600g (APU disabled in BIOS)
GPU: Asus RTX 3060Ti 8GB
Motherboard: Aorus GA-AX370-Gaming k7 (BIOS version F51i)
RAM: 16GB, 8x2, 2666MHz
PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze
Keyboard: Logitech G512
Mouse: Logitech G502
I haven’t tried any of these steps yet.
Consider trying a different RAM stick or using only one slot.
Run the PC with just the APU (Ryzen 5 5600g).
Test with another keyboard and mouse.
Try a different monitor or HDMI cable.
If possible, switch to another GPU (though I don’t have spare one).
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, thank you for your reply. It seems the issue in Reliability Monitor about Windows not shutting down properly happened because my screen restarts to a black screen and I can't force restart the PC. The only way to turn it off is by shutting down the UPS, which is logged as not properly shut down in the monitor. My PSU appears to be around six years old, and I'm using PSU sleeves with different pin configurations. I'll keep this in mind regarding a different PSU. Thanks!
