Some time ago, my system booted into BIOS with the Windows drive not in my priority list. After restarting, it returned to Windows. Then, each subsequent attempt raised concerns about the M.2 SSD. I checked its condition and found it adjacent to my GPU. I suspected overheating or damage. I replaced it with another M.2 unit positioned further away from the GPU.

This change didn’t resolve the problem; every boot still triggered BIOS. Only when I opened the case and verified proper installation did it switch to Windows. After a few weeks of inactivity, I attempted to power on the PC normally. The same issue persisted. Eventually, I learned that a hard restart via the power supply switch resolved the matter—booting correctly afterward.

Specs: Asus Z370e board, Nvidia GTX 1080 (non-overclocked), Intel I7 8700K (non-overclocked), 32 GB DDR4 RAM from G.skill.

First M.2: older model, thought overheating, loaded with Windows. Second M.2: Samsung 970 EVO plus 1TB.

No, fast startup is not disabled by default in Windows Power Options. You can enable or disable it through the settings.
