Hi,
I’m seeking some guidance since my PC has been freezing intermittently over the last few days. I’m unable to determine the exact cause. Here’s a summary of what I’ve observed:

General Description
My computer freezes completely while browsing, only under light CPU and GPU usage. There’s no visible BSOD, but I have to manually shut it down using the power button. Recently, a few days ago, I tried turning it off normally—it didn’t freeze, but it wouldn’t power down at all. Eventually, I had to completely disconnect the PSU and then reconnect it. Additionally, I disabled auto-restart on system failure and WoL, though I’m not sure if those changes helped. For months, I experienced random freezes and audio glitches before this issue occurred, which I attributed to the ftpm/AMD problem.

Diagnostics / Attempts at Fixing
I examined the memory.dmp file in Windbg, which suggested an NVIDIA driver problem. This issue also appeared in the reliability history under "hardware error" (LKD_0x141_Tdr:6_IMAGE_nvlddmkm.sys). I updated the GPU driver and ensured the clocks speeds were set to default, but the problem persists—just occasional. I also performed a basic memory test using Windows tools and intend to run a full memtest soon. It seems Windows has a feature to prevent the GPU from hanging during tasks, and a failed reset attempt would trigger a BSOD. If this were GPU-related, it might explain the occurrence.

Isn't this Seasonic a very old series from a decade or more ago? If that's the case, I would change it.

It seems the power supply unit is quite old, second-hand, and has worked well so far, but maybe it's time for an upgrade. Could that be the reason for your problems?

In agreement with @Dark Lord of Tech, the PSU was decent during its time, but it's been over a decade since then. It's still within warranty, and upgrading to a new PSU would make sense. You also have a 3070 model, though it's not very high demand, but a fresh PSU would be great for better performance. A Corsair RMX850 would be ideal, supporting more power-hungry parts in future upgrades.

It might be contributing to the problems. Updating it would make sense, especially considering its age.

Yeah agreed, I've ordered an rm850x which will arrive today, hopefully it does fix the problem but either way will be a worthwhile investment. Will also be nice to be rid of the eyesore mustard cables that I'd been using up until now. I'll keep this thread open for the time being and see how I go. Cheers
