Earlier this month I purchased a used RTX 3080 on eBay. It installed smoothly and performed well for five months. Recently, some artifacts began showing up and my game would frequently crash. Last week the machine stopped responding entirely even after GPU installation. Oddly enough, when I removed the motherboard and set it up like a test bench, the GPU worked fine. After reinserting it, it still wouldn’t respond. Power is reaching the card via fans, but it crashes after about five minutes. Removing the card and using the integrated graphics succeeded. However, once I put the GPU back in, it remains unresponsive despite BIOS settings for iGPU. I noticed temperatures were normal before the issues started—CPU at 90°C, GPU at 70°C. I’ve tried several fixes: re-seating the GPU, checking RAM, updating drivers, reinstalling Windows, using a different cable, and even swapping to an iGPU for testing. The issue persists.
A distinct power cable won’t change the outcome. If the GPU is nonfunctional, you may try basic troubleshooting steps like checking connections, resetting the device, or consulting the manual for further guidance.
No visible fasteners or loose components were found. The GPU connects solely to the PCI-e port, and neither the port nor the GPU pins show any dirt or debris.
I figured it out! The GPU bent a lot and the PCI-e connector twisted slightly, making it detach from the slot. It functioned on a test bench since it was straight. Now I just need a GPU support bracket. Thanks to all of you for your assistance.
