PC fails to start with the new GPU?
I own:
Motherboard: Asus CrossHair V Formula Z
CPU: AMD 9590
GPUs: 2 x 980s in SLI
RAM: 32GB Dominator GT
It functions perfectly!
I purchased an
Asus 4060 OC GPU.
I removed the two 980s, installed the new 4060 in slot 1 x16, but the PC still wouldn't start. It displayed a black screen followed by a long beep then three short beeps.
I turned it off, reinstalled the 4060, and restarted. Still no POST, black screen and beeps.
After reinserting the 980s, the PC started normally, the 4060 was placed correctly, but nothing happened.
I brought the new 4060 to a shop where they confirmed it works in another system.
Help needed, please.
Hello! I would make sure the GPU is properly connected via the PSU, reset the BIOS to its original settings, and attempt again.
Install 4060 in the top slot alongside 980, link the monitor to 980. Start the system and check Device Manager for any entries named Win. If present, install the necessary drivers, then restart. Connect the second monitor to 4060. If the screen shuts down, remove 980. But if Win doesn’t recognize 4060, adjust BIOS settings. Consider changing the PCie Gen in the first slot to Auto or Gen 3 if possible. Also, CSM mode might need disabling—it could prevent booting without reinstalling.
Thank you for the update. I tried using top 980 with the 4060 and everything worked fine. However, I noticed it's only showing up at x8 in my x16 slot during BIOS.
It seems the BIOS might be outdated and not compatible with a new GPU during boot, especially UEFI only. It's worth checking for available updates. However, it's more practical to consider replacing the 9590. Even basic CPUs now offer a superior gaming experience. A resizable bar is increasingly crucial for modern GPUs, and many games require it—your system lacks this feature.
