Alright, so im still researching but figured id ask to see if anyone knows. So I went out and got ddr 3 2400mhz ram. When I set it to run at 2400 the pc wont boot, i turn it off then on and it says overclocking failed.
Now I have an fx 8320 at 4.71ghz at 1.4v and a crosshair V formula Z mobo.
I have 4 ram slots populated, and I know that max the cpu supports 1866mhz. But even when I set it to 1866mhz it still doesnt boot. It will only boot at 1600mhz.
my cpu/nb frequency is at 2600mhz, I read that it should be 3 times the ram so 3x1200=3600mhz? Is that true? I did not try that yet.
my HT it set to 2600mhz as well.
Cpu/nb voltage is at 1.25 i tried 1.35 but still nothing.
NB voltage is at auto at 1.11v
I set the ram timings manually and the voltage for the ram is set to 1.65v which is what they come at.
Im thinking i could try upping the ram voltage, and the cpu/nb at the same time? What do you guys recommend, its been a while since i messed around with these settings.

I loaded the default optimized bios settings and chose ddr3 2400mhz, it booted properly and runs at the right speed. Should I now start over with the overclock from scratch, given that I just got new RAM sticks? Or could I try loading my existing overclock profile and see if that helps? It might be tricky to figure out why it doesn’t boot at 2400mhz, but maybe a fresh start would be simpler.

alright, so ima just updating this. I loaded my 4.7ghz overclock and after having the default settings i noticed the cpu/nb was set auto to 1.4v where I had it 1.25v when I was running ddr3 1600mhz ram. I upped the cpu/nb voltage to 1.4v and my overclock booted just fine into windows with ram set to 2400mhz. I also set the timings manually and upped the nb frequency to 2800mhz, and it works good.
tried 3000mhz on the nb frequency but it did not post, im guessing I would need more voltage but im good with 2800mhz.
Also does it make sense for the nb to be 2800mhz where my HT is 2600mhz? From what i remember i think one of them limits the other right?
