Hello. I purchased Antec RGB fans for my Corsair 4000D Airflow system. They use a 4-pin Molex connector, which isn’t present on my motherboard, so I connected the adapter that came with my Corsair CX650M power supply. I tried plugging it into the SATA/PATA port, but the computer won’t boot while the adapter is connected.

Removed the adapter from the power supply, did it start up? Was it properly seated at the back of the PSU? These can be tricky to handle from certain positions.

It depends on how the system is configured. If only the adapter connects, it may not start. If both the adapter and the fans are connected to the PSU, it might boot. Check the setup instructions for details.

The system starts when the adapter is removed, but fails to boot even when it's fully inserted, regardless of fan settings.

Do you own a multimeter, or would you like to make one? It seems the adapter could have a short circuit, and the PSU's SCP might be activated.

The adapter appears to be defective, and the PSU acknowledges it to prevent damage to the PC.

You don’t need a multimeter. If the adapter only has four metal contacts and you’re connecting it to the SATA/PATA port, it should work as long as the connections are correct.

Do you have a picture of these contacts please? Show the whole cable and the shapes of the plugs at either end Molex has 4 bare pins on the end that connect to the fans or fan hub or old hdds/cd drives the other end to the psu should look much different

They rely solely on the PSU for power and aren't connected to the board directly.
