OS - Windows 11 x64 Full retail OS System is a 3-year-old installation with CPU: 5900X PNY 3070 Ti and motherboard: Gigabyte b550 Vision d-p Power Supply. Corsair RMX 850x 850W RAM: Olly Blade 2x16 GB DDR4. Boot drive: m2 WD Black SN850X 2TB. I also have an additional 2TB M.2 Solidigm P44 Pro. I really need advice or tips. I can access the logo screen and BIOS settings, but whenever I try to boot Windows it starts loading and freezes. Sometimes I manage to reach Advanced Setup/Repair, which then freezes when I attempt to reinstall from a boot drive (flash drive). This issue began last weekend and was resolved after updating the BIOS. A few days later it reappeared. I was able to recover by downgrading my BIOS to f15 and disabling Secure Boot. After updating drivers, I restarted and it still looped. I've tried: * Using the latest BIOS (f17) * Using an older BIOS (f15, f15a) * Clearing CMOS * Moving RAM around At this stage, I just want to perform a clean install, but it seems impossible. As mentioned, would really appreciate any guidance. Also, my PC has been freezing for months if I leave it on the lock screen; it doesn't happen when signed into Windows. I didn’t explore further back then, but it could be connected now.
Have you attempted to start from a USB with a live setup? When my machine encounters boot problems, I reach for a Linux USB because it bypasses the main drive. If you're unsure how to do this, here are some simple steps (perform on a functional computer): 1. Get Ubuntu Desktop (https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop) 2. Use a 8GB+ USB stick or SD card (for a 4GB you can try OpenSUSE – https://get.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/) 3. Install Rufus or Balena Etcher and flash the ISO to the device Then attempt to boot from it and check if access works. This assumes the system passes POST.
Attempted a fresh storage drive after removing old ones—results didn’t improve (though drives seem generally fine). Likely just POSTing successfully; boot menu works. Coming next: install new RAM and set up a Linux boot environment. Avoiding unfamiliar options or extra costs, I’m going to try everything available.
You're experiencing issues with both RAM upgrades and booting into Ubuntu. It sounds like the system might be unresponsive or have compatibility problems. Double-check your motherboard and RAM compatibility, and ensure you're using the correct installation media. If the screen remains black during installation, there could be a hardware or driver issue.
