PC fails to start correctly – no screen and it doesn’t respond when powered on?
Hi,
This system is roughly four to five years old, with only a 1080 Ti GPU being the older component. The remaining parts include a Ryzen 5 2600 processor, a B450 motherboard, and 16GB of RAM. About a month ago, when I tried to power on the PC, everything seemed fine except for the absence of a display. After turning it off and on again, it still wouldn’t power up, so I forced a shutdown via the PSU. From that point on, the PC would not even start when powered on. Later, I began troubleshooting and followed these steps:
1. Switched the power cable, but the PC received power again without any display or keyboard light.
2. Moved the HDMI cable to another port on the GPU and monitor, which didn’t help.
3. Tested a different HDMI cable—then the motherboard logo appeared with Windows loading, the keyboard worked, but then the display disappeared again, and the keyboard remained functional. When attempting to shut it down, the PC either took time or simply powered off after a minute.
It’s quite puzzling since changing cables seemed to resolve half the issue, yet problems persisted. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; I’d like to get my PC back in working order!
Can you pass through the BIOS and boot into Windows using just a single RAM stick in the primary slot? Make sure all extra peripherals are off, backups are removed, and the GPU is properly seated and powered by the PSU. Also, check if your monitor is functioning correctly—try connecting it to another PC to verify.
Hi everyone. It looks like the problem is resolved. When the PC powers on and displays the motherboard logo and Windows wheel, I was able to shut it down three times before entering safe mode. In safe mode, I removed all display drivers using DDU software. This completely cleared all drivers, which likely caused the issues. After that, I reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers and everything seems to work now! Thanks for your assistance. Hopefully, someone with a similar issue can find this thread useful.
