PC fails to post and displays CPU error message.
Recently upgraded from X79 to my current system two months back. I’m using the identical GPU and PSU as before. During a game, the screen froze and displayed an image while emitting a loud buzzing sound followed by a hard crash. I pressed the power button until it restarted, but the PC remained unresponsive. The CPU LED lit up a solid red, indicating a problem (per the manual). When powered on, the motherboard, NVME drive, and CPU heated up as if functioning normally. I checked the 8-pin CPU connector on the PSU—it provided 12V. No overclocking or voltage adjustments were made, and the BIOS stayed on default settings except for DRAM speed, which was manually set to 6000MT/s. I noted that XMP profiles failed and required a reboot, so I had to manually adjust the speed. The GPU was overclocked to 2050MHz but still operated correctly. All temperatures were normal. I disassembled, cleaned connectors and slots, tested RAM and GPU individually, cleared CMOS, reinserted the CPU, verified all pins, removed the bottom of the CPU with a bit of IPA and a microfiber cloth. I have functional X79 parts ready for testing the PSU and GPU. The PC components are an I7-12700KF, GTX 1060, 3GB RAM (Asus RogStix Z690-G), G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5 6400MT/s, Dagger Pro 650W WD SN850X 1TB. A faulty CPU is uncommon, so any extra troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated before investing in a new processor.
