PC emitted a strong POP upon startup and continues to function.
My computer is placed right by the window, and yesterday it rained heavily while I was at work. It wasn’t wet itself, but there was moisture on the glass panel, so some dampness might have seeped inside too. After letting it dry, I padded a few components to keep them dry. This morning I powered it on for the first time and heard a loud pop—like a firecracker going off. Normally it starts immediately, but this time there was a small delay before all the LEDs lit up, right after the pop. I didn’t notice smoke or any strange smell, and the PC managed to turn on and run normally; the CPU temperatures were within normal range. I was able to switch it off and back on again. My first guesses were a faulty capacitor or transistor in the power supply due to moisture, or maybe an issue with the fan LEDs. Do you know what might be causing this, or how to test or diagnose it? Since the PC is brand new, just built three months ago, I have the specs: CPU RYZEN 7 7700X, GPU RTX 4070 Ti, motherboard MSI B650 Tomahawk, PSU 850W, Corsair RAM 32GB DDR5, 1TB Samsung M2.2 drive.
The most effective approach is likely to remove all components and inspect with a strong light source for any signs of burns. Additionally, a bug within a tripped Short Circuit Protection may be the cause.
If the noise was significant, shut down the system right away and check every fuse and circuit breaker in the power source immediately if you can't afford a full replacement. The sound might have come from the connection point between the cable and the computer—should you take that chance?
It wasn't as unusual as it seemed. Around two years ago, my PC emitted a fairly loud popping noise. I became concerned, turned it off, and checked—nothing was wrong. When I reinserted the devices, a dead fly landed on the table. I think it was shocked and ended up stuck in a cable. Also, there was a window with a flowerbed right below it.
