PC crashes when I overclock the RAM
Hello. I just upgraded my PC with these components: ASUS PRIME X670-P WIFI, G.Skill F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB (2x16GB), DDR5-6000MHz CL30 1.35V AMD EXPO Black Desktop Memory, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The problem I’m experiencing is that when I try to activate the AMD EXPO Memory OC Profile, my PC boots into Windows 10 but then crashes unpredictably, requiring some work to get back into BIOS. When I turn off the overclocking, it functions normally. Can anyone explain why this happens? Did I accidentally purchase incompatible RAM for my CPU?
Check if your RAM is installed on the QLV on the motherboard and ensure the latest BIOS is active.
It's a typo for QVL, the qualified vendors list. It's essentially a collection of memory kits the motherboard manufacturer has tested on their boards and confirmed they function. While it isn't as helpful as some people claim, it can still serve as a good starting point. The kit you mentioned is likely not the problem—it probably comes from an ASUS board QVLed by G.Skill. This issue seems to stem from BIOS compatibility; certain ASUS BIOS versions for specific CPUs had memory ratio issues. A recent update should resolve it, so updating your BIOS might fix the problem.
