PC crashes randomly.
Hi everyone!
This is my first post here, I'm at a loss as to what to do with my husband's CyberPowerPC. We bought it back in 2022 and it has been giving us issues since then (but unfortunately after the return period ended).
Issue:
Turns off randomly. It could go a week without turning off, it could turn off multiple times a day. It can happen while running simple programs such as Gmail or playing videogames.
First, CPU fans start going crazy, sounds like it's a space shuttle about to take off. Then, the monitor turns black. CPU must be turned off manually.
Fix attempts:
Temperatures have always been normal (not overheating).
CyberPower tech team claims to have changed the power supply when we sent it to the factory.
Updated all drivers and programs.
Took CPU to get deep cleaned.
Switched monitors but it still crashed.
Expert opinions:
Both CyberPower techs and local techs couldn't replicate the issue. Last time we tried to have it fixed, CPU crashed but they couldn't pinpoint what caused it.
My CyberPowerPC is about 7 years old and it's still running great, but my husband's keeps crashing. I was thinking maybe we could switch some of our components (first the GPU, and so on one by one) to see if mine started crashing, but I'm afraid I may damage my CPU somehow.
Any opinions are appreciated. We've spent so much money trying to fix this thing.

Have you reinstalled Windows following a drive wipe? If not, I recommend saving any data from the malfunctioning machine to the functional one and proceeding with the reinstall. Make sure to create media and prepare drivers after the first installation. Wipe all partitions on the target drive to ensure it is completely cleared before starting. If the issue persists after a fresh install post-wipe, it likely indicates a hardware problem.
Hi! Thank you for your response. I should note that we completely reset the PC and reinstalled Windows, but the problem still persists. It seems like we might need to check each component individually. Most people I've spoken to thought it could be the graphics card, so we could start there.
If you have onboard video, then the simplest approach would be to detach the GPU and access the monitor through the MB. I think you might be experiencing a memory problem.
Hey, I wanted to let you know I updated since you were so considerate and supportive. We changed the GPUs on both my husband’s and my uncle’s computers. His machine hasn’t turned off and the fans aren’t making any loud noises anymore. My uncle hasn’t been able to reproduce the shutdown problem, but we might have identified something. He mentioned having a program that manages his fans to prevent them from working too hard. Apparently he received a warning about the GPU overheating, which he hadn’t experienced before. We’re still testing, but we hope this issue gets fixed. Thanks again for your reply!
It might be due to an improper application of thermal paste on the GPU or thermal pads, possibly because the PC was purchased during the pandemic and some GPU manufacturers reduced the quality of thermal pads by using only half of them.
