PC clean up software
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate part for this type of question, but what software would you suggest for maintaining a clean PC? I've just installed a new one and want to ensure it stays organized and remove any unnecessary items. You can also share your recommendations. Thanks!
A typical response would suggest avoiding third-party tools except possibly for antivirus software if you prefer not to depend solely on Microsoft products. Malwarebytes is frequently referenced. Back in the day, third-party cleaners such as CCleaner were widely suggested, though they now seem less popular... although many still use them. Using a registry cleaner can cause some concern among users. The standard built-in Windows utility is Disk Cleanup, which I use regularly—usually monthly—and it offers various options to select categories. Some individuals become extremely meticulous about cleaning, so even minor performance gains are unlikely to be obvious, no matter how much you clean. My own cleaning habits are moderate (I don’t check door locks excessively), so I clean less frequently than others. The actual boost in performance is probably hard to notice unless your storage space is limited and you’re dealing with any kind of malware or virus.
I am shocked by how large, forceful, and malicious Malwarebytes has grown. It's extremely intrusive and seems determined to keep it installed. Still, it remains a strong utility for cleaning and enhancing security. The 3.8.3 release might be a more suitable option—it's free and far less invasive. Another useful program is Glary Utilities, which offers registry maintenance that can be cumbersome but provides solid functionality. Disk scanning is also a plus. For managing internet access, Windows Firewall Control and SimpleWall can help restrict or permit applications, blocking external connections or alerting when malware attempts to do so. They can also ensure apps remain updated without automatic updates. Setting them up may be more difficult, but they contribute significantly to maintaining system safety.
Assume any cleaning tool is likely to cause chaos, so it's wise to make a full backup before using it.
Here are a few options:
Disk cleanup...comes with Windows.
Ccleaner.
Revo Uninstaller.
Other tools might exist too.
