This unit is fairly new, mostly functioning well though with some in-game problems. No freeze or restart issues for about a month of play.
Last week I experienced freezing and had to restart the PC.
It appears the issue begins when the room temperature rises due to hot weather. Some days it crashes between 0-1 seconds, while other days it keeps failing.
I have completed most, if not all, basic troubleshooting steps: updated GPU, CPU, and BIOS drivers.
Monitored temperatures consistently normal (GPU RAM at 75°C, CPU at SOC 52).
SSD tested, RAM replaced and tested in various slots.
Windows 11 updates applied, including the in-place upgrade.
Power management adjusted (HDD disabled for 0 minutes, CPU usage capped at 100%).
Switched power cord, tested with different monitors and cables.
BIOS changes: PBO, CBP, C-State controller disabled; CPU voltage set to fixed values. EXPO turned off.
Currently, I lack spare parts and must purchase replacements to resolve the problem, but I’m seeking guidance on where to begin.
First crashes typically occur after a short gameplay session (1-8 hours), but then multiple or endless crashes may happen due to BIOS issues, Windows updates, or game launches.
If crashes appear in BIOS, it could indicate an SSD failure or software problem.
Where should I start and what can be ruled out?
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5080 VENTUS 3X OC 16GB
Case: DUTZO C731 Mesh TG ARGB
Cooler: ID-cooling FROZN 620 Argb
MB: MSI B650 Gaming plus WiFi
RAM: Team Group T-Force Delta DDR5-6000MHz - 32GB - CL30
PSU: Cooler Master XG850 850W PSU - 80 Plus Platinum
NV3 Gen 4 M.2 SSD med 2 TB
Ensure the CPU cooler is positioned correctly. I found a discussion on another forum where someone reported freezes, crashes, and restarts due to improper cooler placement or physical contact issues. Check the case thoroughly, confirming all components are aligned properly and there are no contact problems.
Are there any indicators on the EZ Debug LED during a freeze that require a complete reboot? What are the DRAM and SSD speeds prior to the system crash?
if you struggle to resolve this issue, I would lower the GPU overclock on the MSI GeForce RTX 5080 VENTUS 3X OC 16GB to its standard clock speed. Please let us know the type of monitor you are using, including its resolution and refresh rate—multi-monitor setups or high-resolution displays with high refresh rates consume more power. Also, specify whether you are running the stable NVIDIA drivers or the game-ready drivers (the beta/game versions tend to use more power).
Based on what I understand, excessive power consumption from the GPU may activate the motherboard’s power protection circuit. This can cause the CPU to reset and prevent a bugcheck dump, resulting in only a 41 power error appearing during reboot. If your power supply is weak, a subsequent bugcheck might run after the restart.
In any case, try reducing the GPU’s power usage. You might want to disable the GPU sound if you don’t have speakers connected or are not using audio via a video cable. Excessive power draw through the PCI/EC bus can also trigger these protection circuits.
Please note that only suitable motherboards will successfully reboot under these conditions; cheaper boards may damage the PCI/EC connector and even cause a fire hazard.
Based on my experience with brand new builds, I discovered that starting the Motherboard GPU and CPU at their default settings during the initial run with games was most effective. After that, I gradually adjusted the system for optimal performance while respecting the hardware limits. I typically use Auto overclock in most cases without encountering any OS or hardware problems. Others tend to push the system too hard with excessive overclocking, leading to various issues like this one and even more severe problems. I hope you can fix the problems affecting your PC and resume enjoying its performance. Cheers.
