Pascal overclocking is hard...
Do you have any advice on how to overclock a GTX 1080? It seems like it doesn’t stay stable with any overclocking attempts, not even for temperature adjustments. I own a Zotac AMP and it’s possible the issue lies in the GPU BIOS. I’ve tried adjusting the voltage percentage in FireStorm, but even after stress testing with maximum 4K FB1, only a small boost of around 50 MHz was achieved. I’m new to NVIDIA overclocking, but some people suggest you can push the voltage slider without overheating it. Could you share any better BIOS options or tips? Also, if you know what might be wrong, please let me know. I’ve also set the power limit and temperature targets, but they aren’t being reached. I’m unsure whether the problem is with me or something more serious.
What are you really doing by increasing the clock speed just for fun (since the 1080 is strong enough) or are you experiencing low frame rates in your games? Your card might already be at its maximum clock limit from the factory, and I've seen some cards undergo significant factory overclocking.
Sometimes in 4k battlefield 1 the frame rate drops below 60fps on ultra settings, which isn't ideal for me. I've noticed most people manage to exceed 2000mhz, but I struggle with it. Some folks think overclocking is okay unless necessary, but I prefer not to waste power when my system can handle it.
I get that you want to overclock the CPU, but I’m still not very experienced with GPU optimization. Regarding BF1, it seems like a poorly optimized game where people with better systems usually have no issues. Are you facing any problems in other games or tasks? For the overclocking, make sure you configure a custom fan curve during the process to avoid thermal throttling. My real concern is that your main issue might be related to BF1—just hope they release an update to fix it for everyone.
I get what you mean about wanting to overclock, I did it on my CPU, but I’m still not very experienced with GPU OC. Regarding BF1, from what I’ve heard, it’s a game that isn’t well optimized and people with better systems are facing more trouble. Are you experiencing any issues in other games or while doing other tasks? Concerning the overclock, make sure you configure a custom fan curve during the process to avoid thermal throttling. My real take on your main concern is that it’s likely a BF1 problem, not your hardware. If you pass a stress test with your OC but still have issues with BF1, it probably points to a BF1 issue, and hopefully they’ll release a patch soon to fix everyone’s problems.
