I recently changed my R9 280x to a Vega 56 and am seeing signs that my i5-6500 needs an upgrade soon. I’m struggling with Discord, demanding games like Warzone or PUBG, and background videos while playing. My CPU stays at full speed in most games, which makes me think it’s time for a better setup. With limited budget, I’m unsure what to choose—should I consider Ryzen 3300x/3600 or i3-10100/10300? It’s hard to figure out the right pairing to ease this issue.
I thought about it. My motherboard isn’t designed for overclocking, so the K models wouldn’t fit. Unfortunately, the 7700 series (K or otherwise) were all priced above $300 unless I bought used, which was still more than $150. It’s not clear where to get a good deal on a new one.
It seems there won't be any deals on new CPUs that old... what's left are unsold leftover parts. I recommend considering a complete platform change. If you can, aim for AMD; otherwise, an Intel Core i5-10600 might fit your needs well.
