hey so today I was on my pc clearing out things that were hampering the startup time of my pc and I noticed this uknown process called core. it doesn't give me a publisher name or let me open file location to see where it is . my question is do you think it's a trojan ? or maybe just a residual file that has been uninstalled and some how is still in the startup tab? Thanks for your time ,Mitch
It seems like a potential trojan is present. Standard applications usually lack more information about this. Consider using antivirus software or Malwarebytes to confirm. It’s unclear if this could be a critical issue with your CPU.
You're likely thinking it's safe, but it's a good idea to scan with malwarebytes, Bitdefender, and HitmanPro. People often have a lot of junk on their computers. Don't forget to run adwcleaner as well. If you need links, let me know. Edited December 19, 2016 by imPixelTV
Another task is underway in the background, while the previous one remains visible on Windows.
I'm not sure what you're referring to. A background process begins with Windows. Malware can run under core.exe. Trojans might execute as this file. The official core.exe from EA should have a valid signature.
I just installed Sims 3 and the EA download manager, but I removed the manager. It still shows downloads for mac, which hasn’t helped. Could this be the reason? Also, I restarted the PC to ensure all leftover files are cleared.
I’ve downloaded two Bitdefender versions while typing, but neither malwarebytes nor Hitman Pro found anything except tracking cookies and a mining client I previously used (ccminer). I’m hoping this offers Bitdefender. Thanks for the chance, and I really appreciate it!
