I made a big mistake while choosing a new motherboard... I didn’t consider the OEM windows. Now I need to figure out how to activate them once the board arrives and how to avoid losing all my files if I have to buy a fresh copy of Windows because I only have one HDD left. I’ve never dealt with this before—I usually install Windows on blank drives, so I’m not sure what to expect. Your help would be really appreciated!

Initially, ensure you save all your data before proceeding. Create a secondary backup of that backup. Next, explore various programs that can identify your Windows key, such as Belarc available at www.belarc.com. This tool is free and provides not just the Windows key but also other software keys present on your system. With your old motherboard replaced and backups secured, you can upgrade to a new one and reinstall Windows on the updated hardware. Additionally, consider enhancing your setup by adding an SSD drive. Perform a full installation of Windows using the fresh hardware, following the instructions in the Windows Media Creation tool provided by Microsoft. You can find it here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software...dl1vfzij00

Link your device to your MS profile. Access your Microsoft account. Completed. Microsoft prioritizes user experience over revenue, so tying the device will lift many licensing limitations.

The details about the connected account were correct, but the reason for reinstalling wasn't. Simply install the drive, restart the system, and Windows will recognize the new hardware.
