I've been facing some internet speed problems lately. I expect at least 400 downloads, but often it doesn't reach that level. This seems to happen only on my PC, which makes me suspect a hardware problem—though that would be quite frustrating. I ran a speed test using a Cat-7 cable, and the connection starts slow and gradually improves. Testing on another PC or my phone brings speeds up to about 350-400 Mbps, so it’s not just a general internet issue. I’ve tried using the wireless adapter with 5GHz, but it caps around 150 Mbps. My motherboard has been in use for about four months; I recently replaced it because the old one failed. I’m hoping this isn’t related to the hardware, but I’d rather not have to disassemble and rebuild it. Any advice would be appreciated!

I can run the speed test using another operating system installation. Testing with Ubuntu on a USB drive will help determine whether the problem lies in software or hardware.

Sure thing. Uploading Ubuntu to a USB and I’ll give you another update once the speed test is finished.

On Linux it jumped to 460mbps right away (a big improvement given the plan mentioned 400). Looks like the problem is with the software.

Network performance problems with Windows are frequently discussed on forums. This has been an ongoing issue for several years, and it seems likely tied to aggressive system updates that interfere with background processes. No straightforward fix has been found, and most solutions involve a complete operating system reinstall. That’s the only option I can suggest.
