Hey, I need some guidance. I recently swapped out my old motherboard for a new one on my 4790k, but now I’m seeing high idle temps of 50-60°C. During stress tests in AIDA64, the CPU drops to around 3.4 GHz or less. My previous board was an ASRock H97 Pro, and I upgraded to an ASUS H81 M Plus. I’m currently running these specs: I7-4790k, ASRock H97m Pro, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 1333 MHz, XFX RX 5700X, Master Cooler Master Reactor 650W (80+Gold). I’ve added enough fans for cooling and left the side open for testing.

Did you remove the old thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink, then put on a fresh layer before reattaching the cooler? Verified the cooler was secured correctly? Which case are you working with, and how are your fans configured?

I applied fresh thermal paste and installed Arctic MX 4. My setup includes three fans for intake, two more for exhaust, plus a Corsair Delta carbide mid tower.

Check if your CPU cooler is properly placed. Reinsert it carefully and ensure good contact with the CPU.

Case airflow appears fine. Aligning with @Vacras' advice. Are you installing the standard cooler or a custom one? If using the stock model, verify the four push-pins at each corner are securely inserted. For aftermarket options, inspect the mounting structure—ensure there are four screws per corner and tighten them in an X-shape for uniform pressure. Also confirm the CPU cooler fan connections match the CPU_fan header.

The CPU cooler is installed properly and I'm using a 240mm AIO.
