Overheating issue reported with the 5800X3D.
Hello, I'm facing some serious overheating problems with my 5800X3d. Initially, the 240mm AIO (from ASUS) fans ran at full speed, but they kept getting hotter until the machine idled above 60°C. I tried replacing the thermal paste four times using the best options available, but the issue persists. I'm looking for a solution and prefer air coolers, so I'm open to getting a new one just to resolve this.
The specifications include Mobo: MEG X570S UNIFY-X MAX Rams: 32 GB (16x2) Tridentz Neo GPU, 3090 Founders edition. The case is Lancool 3 with dimensions 3 140mm front, -3 140mm top, 1 140mm back, and 3 120mm at the bottom. All liquid cooling SL fans and a PSU rated at 1000 Watts are included.
my noctua u12s operates smoothly at idle with 300rpm and a cool CPU temperature around 35°C. under cb23 it hits 79max, the cooler is running at about 1400rpm and it's doing a lot of work. i notice some poor airflow in the inwin case—actually not that bad. there are two fans, one front and one back. the issue isn’t a fix I know of, but i think upgrading to a better cooler would help. maybe trimming the bottom and top intake vents could make a difference. a good fan setup should push air in and out quickly, like a wind tunnel, not create a chaotic storm. your current setup feels more like a hurricane than a smooth flow.
PBO2 Tuner settings range from -20 to all cores, checking stability at -25 and then -30. Adjusting to -30 is recommended if your CPU can handle it while maintaining a 4450 speed. Temperatures below 85°C should work well, depending on the cooler. The 240mm fan should still function, though it may run slower or have more heat. The CPU model is around 115W; using a 280mm/360mm setup could provide extra buffer or slower fans, but the chip may overheat based on ambient conditions.
It makes sense, my 3D runs smoothly even on cores that handle 4550 operations frequently (random cores). The lower temperatures really do help. According to hwinfo64, the CPU begins throttling around 80°C, though it seems not too severe.
