My CPU is getting too hot. I’ve just re-applied thermal paste, kept the system clean, ensured proper airflow, and everything seems to be in order except for the overheating. My i7-10700K is about 1.5 years old, paired with a 360mm AIO (MSI Coreliquid). The room temperature is around 22°C, and I have eight fans in my Corsair 4000D case. After all those checks, the processor still overheats constantly. When I power on the machine, it quickly rises to high temperatures—sometimes hitting 80s or dropping just below 100. Despite everything I’ve tried—reseating the AIO, adding more fans, adjusting fan curves, cleaning RAM, doing a fresh Windows 11 install, and even lowering the CPU voltage—I haven’t seen any improvement. I’m not running an overclock, and my RAM is set to XMP at 3600. I’m starting to think Windows 11 might be causing the issue, or maybe the GPU is the culprit. It seems to have started around a week after I installed my graphics card (GTX 1080). If anyone knows what might be causing this, please let me know. Honestly, I’m at a loss and feel like giving up on this machine.
The MSI Coreliquid coolers have been recalled because of sediment buildup. This issue may affect you too.
Use an extra hard drive to set up Windows 10 and check if the issue resolves; disconnect your existing drive during testing
