I never increased clock speeds beyond normal limits. Yet I studied extensively to figure out whether I should try overclocking or not. Here’s what I learned (not sure if anything is incorrect). If you wish to boost your Intel CPU, you’ll need a processor with a K designation, which is pricier than standard models. You also require a motherboard featuring an Intel chipset with a Z letter, enabling overclocking capabilities. These Z boards come at an additional cost. For AMD systems, all their CPUs support overclocking and most mainboards accommodate it (provided the VRM can handle sufficient current). Overclocking demands more power, generating higher heat. You should upgrade your cooling solution—consider a high-end air cooler or a 3-fan AIO water cooler. Doing so can improve single-core performance by roughly 10%, but it increases instability risks. Your system may crash more often, forcing fans to spin faster, which raises noise levels. I aimed for a reliable, fast, and quiet PC. Since I chose Intel, I saved the extra funds for an i7 instead of an i5. This investment helped speed up my build while maintaining stability compared to overclocking.
