There are two main methods to boost CPU performance. You can raise the multiplier setting, which needs an unlocked processor, or boost the bus speed, which requires an unlocked motherboard. Manufacturers have different ways of preventing this.
Speeding up the CPU generates more heat. At certain speeds, you might need to increase voltage for stability, which adds even more heat.
Testing for stability means keeping an eye on temperature to prevent damage. Each CPU has its own voltage and temperature limits.
Cooling, voltage, and speed are the key factors.

I'm not certain Intel made any overclocking adjustments on their board, were they? This board isn't built for overclocking. Look in the BIOS to check if there are options to boost the front side bus (FSB) and CPU voltage, and see if you can tweak the RAM settings.

Intel motherboards from earlier years provided reliable performance, though overclocking capabilities were not offered.

roudy-s :
i noticed i can only adjust the multiplier.
then you're in a tough spot.
you don't have an unlocked CPU to benefit from the multi.
even if you tried, you'd likely see only small improvements from just boosting the FSB (BCLK).
probably not more than a few hundred MHz.

From the builds available, several top performers score around 93% on their CPU, which often indicates an overclock.

william p :
I noticed those builds with a few top scores rating 93% for their CPU. That often indicates some kind of overclocking.

In the imperfect realm of userbenchmark, it might just mean a bit faster stock performance compared to average stock.

the i7 875K remains unlocked, yet it seems certain components aren't activating properly.

I dont know anything about overclocking so i need your help if i change the multiplier i can get the cpu to a clock speed of 3.7 ghz woth turbo boost to 4 ghz but i know that i need to change the voltage but i dont know how or if i can change the voltage
