overclocking temp problem
overclocking temp problem
Hi, I wanted to share a bit about my experience. I previously installed Core 2 Duo E7500 with the standard cooler and everything worked fine in terms of temperature. Then I upgraded to a Core 2 Quad Q8400, especially under heavy loads, the processor would hit around 100 degrees Celsius. I didn’t want to overclock it, so I switched to a Deepcool Ice Edge Mini FS vs 2.0 cooler at 2.6 GHz. At that speed and load, the temperature stayed normal—around 66°C. But when I increased it to 2.8 GHz, it jumped to about 78–80°C. It wasn’t just the heat, but the frequency that caused the spike. I know my processor can handle up to 100°C without damage, so it’s safe. Idle: 45°C, Full load: 66°C, Overclocked: 2.8 GHz, 78–80°C. Apologies for the unclear English—I used Google Translate.

That's fine, but you should consider a better aftermarket cooler as well. I also recommend Artic silver thermal paste—it gives good results with aftermarket coolers. If you're looking for water cooling, overclocking above 2.8 GHz is optional, especially at 3.20 GHz with 65°C and a voltage of about 1.125V. It's still running smoothly.
How long will it last?
Remarkable overclocking achieved; it's definitely good. I believe it will remain effective for a long time, especially with lower temperatures being preferable, though it's satisfactory as it is now.
