Overclocking old AMD CPU
Overclocking old AMD CPU
Hi, I'm currently trying to overclock an old Sempron 1250 CPU to improve overall system performance and
at least
be able to watch movies at 720p without lag or stutter
First the specs
Asrock N61PS with latest BIOS version
Sempron 1250
2GB, 800MHz Kingston DDR2 module
no graphics card
EVGA 430w
Stock freq is 2200MHz and here's what I did, the multiplier is locked only for higher frequencies, default setting is x11, it can be lowered to x10.5, x10, etc, FSB is unlocked, default is 200, so, first I tried overclocking it to 210, it worked, 220, also worked, if I go higher than 220 I have to start correcting RAM frequency to keep up, I managed to overclock the FSB up to 300, compensating with a 533MHz RAM setting (533+150% = 799.5) and overvolting chipset a bit up to 1.373v and CPU to 1.430v to keep it stable in stress tests
Problem is.... sometimes, randomly, the computer won't boot at all, black screen, no keyboard signal, nothing, restart does nothing, restarting it 3 times sets the BIOS back to its defaults, this is absolutely random, everything works perfectly, Prime95 blend, AIDA64 benchmark, HeavyLoad, even SuperPI can run for hours without hanging or crashing, temperatures are inside the safe range, 54°C running at full load, 30 or less on idle mode, using async default PCI bus
My question is.... what's causing the black screen problem? oh, by the way, the same exact problem occurs if the FSB goes over 221, maybe the onboard GPU is causing it but I can't see how as memory frequencies and timings are ok, it just happens...
