I recently purchased a high-end 16GB 3600 Trident Z Royal and adjusted the clock speed accordingly. However, after a brief BIOS session, I encountered an error screen and my system reset to 2133. After checking online, I found information about DOCP and XMP, though the latter isn’t displaying for my setup. I’m using an ASUS B450-F with Trident Z Royal and 16GB RAM. Am I overlooking something or did this upgrade not work as intended?
DCP is an Asus product. It matches XMP exactly. While XMP is an Intel solution, other brands chose to stick with XMP for some reason rather than adopting alternatives.
Your chip likely won’t handle it. Zen alone needs 3200mhz, so a 3600mhz setup is unnecessary. The IMC on both Zen and Zen + isn’t ideal, particularly with faster memory kits that require significant timing and voltage adjustments.
I intend to replace the CPU later and had less than 3000 before. I found a good deal on it too and it fits well in the case. Thanks for the assistance.
Looking into the memory part number. The original timing specs are CL18, not CL16. The best fit for the 2700X seems to be B-Die sticks with a clock speed of 16-16-16-16-36. Using 18-22-22-22-42 would be counterproductive, even with marginally higher clock speeds. Zen+ is often touted for 3200MHz, but that’s not accurate. The CPU memory controller supports up to 2933MHz and beyond will require overclocking. The Dram Calculator won’t assist here. If the system can’t run memory at XMP, trying to adjust or overclock based on its suggestions is pointless—it’ll just waste time.
