It was running at a core speed of 3.8 GHz and I pushed it to 4.6 GHz. I have a very large and efficient heat sink (I don’t remember its exact name but know it’s excellent and recommended) and I’m asking whether it’s safe to go that high or if I should limit the overclock to around 4.2–4.4 GHz? Thanks in advance.

you should first verify your cpu's temperature. install coretemp and share the idle temperatures you're experiencing.

First, make sure your CPU temperature is within normal range. Download Coretemp to share the idle temperatures you're experiencing. I ran a benchmark and have been using it for some time; it has never exceeded 80°C, with temperatures staying between 20-60°C, which looks fine.
