Overclocking Intel I7 6700K
I am attempting to push this Intel I7 6700K CPU to its limits on an MSI Z170A Krait Gaming X3 board, using 16 GB DDR4 RAM with liquid cooling. I am adjusting the CPU ratio and Vcore while keeping the RAM below its original speed to avoid affecting the test outcome after applying the XMP profile.
I would like to know:
1. Which stress test should I use to check stability during regular daily use of this CPU?
2. Besides CPU ratio and Vcore, are there other settings I can tweak to help with instability during testing? For instance, adjusting all voltage levels or changing BIOS options.
For example, if stability holds at [email protected] but fails at [email protected], would it be safe to just raise the Vcore?
3. If there is any instability, should I try increasing BCLK and lowering the CPU multiplier, or could that make things worse?
4. Is using Core Override as a Vcore mode acceptable?
5. Does reducing the ring frequency affect stability, or is it the same?
1 - i used intelBurnTest and aida64 for stress testing my CPU. I already have the same CPU.
2- Yes, you can, but aim to keep below 1.4Volts for regular use. For daily tasks, try staying under that level. First, experiment with load line calibration (LLC). Don’t go too far into it; every manufacturer defines these values differently. For example, my board from Gigabyte has options like Auto, Normal, High, Extreme. I usually pick the "High" setting. If it becomes unstable, raise the Vcore. What I mean is start with LLC adjustments before changing the Vcore, and consider three different profiles—Profile 1, Prof.2, and 3—but don’t jump to the last one; just pick the second one.

Just aim for a middle setting. Sorry, I tried my best to explain clearly with my English.
For the rest, I don’t know much, sorry. I’m not a pro, just sharing what works for me.
