Hey everyone, just wrapped up the overclocking of my 9700K. It’s holding steady at 4.8GHz with 1.25v, and I’m okay with that. Since it’s a static overclock, like the one on my old 7700K, I’m curious about tweaking the BIOS settings to switch it to dynamic mode. I’ve got Windows Power Mode set to balanced, but I’m not sure what changes are needed there. Any tips or adjustments you’d recommend?

The term "dynamic" overclocking usually refers to adjusting the processor speed based on workload. To lower frequency during low usage, ensure Intel EIST (SpeedStep) is activated. C-states also help minimize power consumption when the CPU isn't actively processing tasks.

Check if the feature for frequency offset exists; ensure voltage is set automatically will resolve the issue.

Yes, that's correct. I don't need every core running at 4.8 even when idle. I've turned on EIST and will review the C-states. Thanks!

When you activate the C states, your CPU's performance when idle becomes irrelevant. The comparison highlights significant gains in speed without affecting power use or temperature during inactivity. Inside a C7 state, the core halts its internal clock and disconnects from power, remaining dormant at 0 MHz and 0 Volts. Most cores can stay in this low-power mode up to 99% of the time, even when the system is partially active. This allows unused cores to conserve energy while still being ready when needed.
