I've shared this on several forums but haven't gotten any responses, so I thought about creating an account here. My question is: I'm using it with a Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X board and would appreciate advice on safely overclocking. I'm currently running all cores at 5.1, according to hwinfo64, which shows speeds between 1.405v and 1.415v at the highest setting. I'm unsure if this is safe. What adjustments should I make? How should I proceed? I have no prior experience with CPU overclocking—just watched a few videos and set up the system for 5.1. The highest temperature I've seen it reach was around 80°C during FS2020, but I tried 5.2 briefly and it spiked to 91°C. I reduced it back down. Also, with the new NVIDIA 3000 series, what's the maximum power draw? I'm planning to use a 3080 and keep the OC at 10900kW, so I might need a replacement power supply if needed. My current setup is a 750BQ from Evga.

No, I haven't looked at VRM temperatures during your overclock tests.

Is this related to VRM MOS in hwinfo64? I haven’t checked yet, but I can launch FS2020 (which is a pig) and observe the temperature readings.

Stress and stability tests using Prime95, Linpack, and OCCT are complete. How have your overclocks held up so far? 48C is quite impressive, though I’m not sure how much current FS2020 draws through the CPU—it’s definitely less than a stress test. Do you notice any airflow around the VRM heatsinks?

They should operate below 100°C, ideally even lower. They’ll likely stop when reaching 120–125°C. I don’t typically rely on OCCT; instead, aim for a CPU/FPU/cache performance evaluation.

I ran Prime95 for about 5 to 10 minutes on the highest temperature settings. The CPU jumped straight to 90-100°C, the VRM reached 78°C before I stopped the test. I’m unsure how safe it is to keep the test going while the system throttles at fixed temperatures—I ended up shutting it down afterward. After turning it off, the CPU cooled back down quickly, the VRM dropped to 57°C and was still working to stabilize.
