Hey there, I've got an I7 4790K that clocks around 4.7 GHz at roughly 1.27V core voltage. Just had a fresh install and the temps are really low—around 70 degrees after a few hours of gaming. I've recently started experimenting with overclocking, so I'm curious if adding a liquid cooler could help push it even higher, maybe up to 5 GHz or more. Would a slight jump in MHz really boost FPS in games like Warzone? I know it's mostly GPU-dependent, but I just wanted to check if it'd make a difference. Right now, I struggle to hit stable temps at 4.8 GHz on air, which is why I'm asking. Although it's an older chip, it's the best option I can afford right now. A liquid cooler can't handle such extreme temperatures—4790K to 5 GHz isn't realistic. Around 70°C is too hot for aggressive overclocking. I wouldn't suggest going further. If your games rely heavily on GPU performance, the extra clock speed won't significantly help.
What graphics card are you using? What resolution are you working with? That data wouldn’t really change much. Which cooler are you employing? A solid air cooler isn’t much better than an all-in-one unit. If yours is mediocre, there’s still room for improvement, though I’m not sure your CPU would handle it. Speaking of performance, are you confident stable at 4.7? My 4770k delid running at 4.4 GHz (around 1.20v, maybe 1.25) was in the 50s during games, and it hit the high 60s in stress tests. I didn’t want to overstress it, but the point is, a delid needs serious cooling for that level.
Rx 580 Sapphire + Special Edition works fine with my setup. I use 1080P at 144 Hz and recently upgraded with a local cooler. It's not the best but isn't terrible either. I haven't completed the benchmarks yet, especially after eight hours of play. Still, I know from experience that scores don't always reflect real performance since crashes can happen quickly.
Asus realbench isn’t meant to be a standard benchmark. It’s a tool for checking the overclocked setup. If you can survive 8 hours of stress testing, no game should trigger problems since no game will push the CPU nearly as much. Another solid test is AIDA64. How have you confirmed your overclock? Aida64 is usually the preferred method, or prime95. P95 is less popular now because it mainly simulates power virus loads with AVX, so most people stick with Aida64 and Asus realbench today. Using a “benchmark” doesn’t really show stability because it doesn’t stress the CPU heavily.
