Overclocking I5 8600k
Overclocking I5 8600k
I plan to construct a new PC using an AMD build and want to know the maximum I can push the I5 8600k without altering the voltage settings. This is my first time overclocking and I haven’t built a gaming system before.
The components I’ll be using are:
Intel Core I5 8600k
Cryorig h7 - CPU cooler
Noctua NT H1 - cooling paste
NZXT H500 (includes two fans; I’ll also add two 140mm fans)
MSI Z370-A Pro
Corsair TX550M gold rated
Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz 2x8gb
Palit Geforce gtx 1060 dual
Samsung 860 evo 500gb SSD
Each chip is unique. You'll need to discover it on your own, not rely solely on this forum for help.
Your OC performance will largely depend on the quality of the chip you obtain.
As of 3/22/2018:
The percentage of I5-8600k chips that can achieve a high aggressive Vcore of 1.4 or more with a delidded 4.9 is 96%, 85% at 5.0, 66% at 5.1, 38% at 5.2 and only 13% at 5.3.
If you don’t allow the Vcore to increase alongside the multiplier, you won’t reach these numbers.
I recommend keeping the voltages on auto, slowly increasing the core multiplier and conducting stress tests.
Watch the Vcore using cpu-Z and stop when it feels uncomfortable.
I suggest trying around 1.3v, but not exceeding 1.4v.
Make sure to monitor your temperatures, aiming for a maximum of 85°C during a stress test.
