You likely already know I have an i5-4690K and I'm thinking about boosting its performance. My existing cooler, a Cooler Master Hyper EVO 212, isn't great, so I'm considering upgrading to a better air or water cooler—any recommendations would be appreciated. In the future, I plan to upgrade to an i7-4790K, but right now this i5-4690K is working just fine.

Even though the CM Hyper Evo212 is a solid cooler, a Raijintek Ereboss or BeQuiet Dark RockPro 3 4.2GHz should work fine
😀
Be careful if these fit in your case.

Make sure you're prepared, buddy. The 4790k might heat up a lot even with minor voltage shifts.

I've adjusted my CPU speed to 5Ghz for testing. It may not be stable under heavy use, but I'm just trying things out. I'm considering returning it to 4.8Ghz after stress tests with Prime95. Should I keep Vcore set to AUTO or handle it myself? Also, what are some effective chassis fans for cooling down the heat?

I would definitely adjust the main voltage myself.
Test 4.8Ghz at 1.38V
NZXT Airflow Fans look good

Try 4.8Ghz at 1.38V
NZXT Airflow Fans are quite good
I recently purchased a water cooler (Corsair H55), just waiting to see a friend so he can demonstrate how to install it.

It's disappointing, but the h55 isn't great by any means. You'd do better with a quieter Dark Rock 3.

It's disappointing, but the h55 really isn't up to par. You'd be better off with a quieter Dark Rock 3.

I own an i5 4690k that's been overclocked to 4.65 GHz using a Hyper 212 Evo.
😀
Performance stays stable between 75-80°C during gaming, but spikes to 90-100°C when running intensive benchmarks.
