Overclocking i3 6100 gaming rig
Hi everyone,
Today I'm putting together a budget gaming PC for a friend. The components are: MSI Z170-A PRO, i3-6100, MSI gtx 970 GAMING 4G, Kingston DDR4 2666 2x4GB RAM, and a CM B600 PSU. I've learned the i3-6100 can be overclocked, but my friend doesn't have enough funds right now for a good CPU cooler. Is there any way to perform a minor overclock, perhaps up to 4Ghz, to boost performance without risking CPU damage? Thanks!
I'm certain it wouldn't, but I'd still monitor the temperatures and experiment with it for a few days to ensure they stay within acceptable limits.
I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue, but I'd still monitor the temperatures and experiment for a few days to make sure they don't rise too high. Thanks for getting back. The main thing is that non-K OC bios affect the temperature readings, so I have no idea how hot it is. I kept it at 1.24V, now running at 3995MHz. Probably won't cause any problems.
