overclocking CPU and GPU
overclocking CPU and GPU
Hi friends,
Here are my PC specifications:
AMD phenom iix4 955 processor.
Asus m2n68-am se2 motherboard
4 GB ddr2 ram (800mhz)
Geforce 1030 OC edition 2GB MSI Graphic card
120 GB adata SSD.
350 Watt coolermaster SMPS.
Can anyone advise me on safely overclocking my CPU and GPU so I can run GTA 5 in high settings?
Does my motherboard support overclocking?
I currently have the stock fans on my CPU and GPU, plus two separate fans in my cabinet.
What results can I expect after overclocking? I’m really excited because I’m new to this.
😀
Thanks a lot in advance.
Hey, starting with the SMPS/PSU: you should definitely opt for something more powerful (~500W).
I found out that your motherboard and Black Edition CPU both support overclocking, but I won’t expect much potential with a stock cooler because of the extra heat.
Your graphics card is also overclockable, preferably using the "Msi Afterburner".
You might be able to boost performance here.
My advice is to keep the CPU at stock speeds unless you have a better CPU cooler.
Download the Msi Afterburner, set the graphics card power limit to max (leave the temperature limit as is!).
Try adjusting the core frequency offset (~ +50mhz) and memory frequency offset (~ +250mhz).
Keep in mind these are very rough estimates.

Unlike with CPU BIOS overclocking, using MSI Afterburner is quite safe.
If the GPU becomes unstable from high frequencies, it will reset itself—just try a lower frequency next time.
GTA 5 (1080p) in high settings probably won’t work; medium details without Anti-Aliasing might be feasible.
Maybe consider playing in 720p instead.
