Overclocking CPU Advice
I'm researching options for an aftermarket heatsink for my AMD A8 5600k CPU. I'm curious about a reasonable safe overclock level. I plan to purchase a new motherboard with my next paycheck (FM2/FM2+ Gigabyte A88x board). Currently, I have the stock heatsink, plus a 120mm Scythe fan at 3000rpm with 133cfm intake and a 140mm master fan for exhaust at 60cfm. With so much air moving through the case, do I really need an aftermarket heatsink or is it mainly about appearance? I've been overclocking to 4.4GHz before my motherboard failed (a cheap one, not surprising).
They'd prefer a higher-quality cooler for OCing. Safety depends on your specific 5600K setup and its voltage requirements. You'll need to keep an eye on temperatures as you move up the voltage levels.
Tradesman1 suggests a better cooler would help if OCing is involved. Safety depends on your specific 5600K and voltage requirements, so you should keep an eye on temperatures as you go higher. Your current readings at 4.4GHZ ranged from 40 to 50 degrees Celsius under stress. A suitable target temperature would be within that range but ideally lower for optimal performance.
