I aim to extend my lifespan as much as possible without risking any thermal or electrical damage. I’m interested in getting an AMD Zen processor on release, but I also understand it will be expensive at launch. The boards will be costly too. If I can delay replacing the whole system for another two years, that would be perfect.

Next tax return I'm going to check how Zen did; if it doesn't work again, I'll switch to Intel.

It would be really disappointing if this were a failure. AMD is known for hitting CPU milestones ahead of Intel, even if they aren't as strong right now. With Zen they're adopting hyperthreaded cores, moving to a 14nm design, and adding 12 cores. I’d probably cry in the corner and toss my computer out the window if Zen doesn’t work out.
