I have my hands on a 970 Extreme3 and an FX 4130 for roughly fifteen dollars. It’s still untested, but I managed to repair the board. However, it’s starting to dry out after I submerged it in water to confirm cleanliness—despite the PCI slots appearing dirty, the PCI debug card is showing 00 or no display even though the motherboard boots normally. It usually takes about 12 to 16 hours for it to fully dry out.
I also acquired a 4100 from a failed purchase (the board is dead but the CPU is still working). I’m mainly interested in RAM timing, FSB speed, number of frequency settings, and the BIOS voltage readings: vcore, CPU frequency, number of voltage rails, DRAM voltage, Nb Volt, FSB voltage, CPU VDD, and PCIe VDD.
I’ve checked the BIOS for any crashes, and it seems only a slight crippling on the DRAM voltage—just a small difference between 1.9V and 2.06V when clocking PSCs. That doesn’t seem significant (the difference is minimal). Still, I plan to crossflash anyway.
For RAM timing, I’m curious about how far Nb Frequency can push things and whether there are other voltage levels that influence RAM timing. Regarding FSB, I want to know what clock speeds are possible for the HST and how they compare to my previous boards, which struggled to reach even 2200 MHz.
I assume CPU frequency and number of voltage rails affect performance, but I’m unsure how much higher Nb Volt can help. The HST voltage seems to just raise the HST rail; it doesn’t seem to impact RAM or FSB much. As for PCIe speed, I’m not sure what other frequencies matter beyond what’s listed in the BIOS.
For Nb Frequency, I wonder if it refers to the CPU internal frequency or the actual NbF0.5 clock. It seems unrelated to RAM or FSB performance.
The VDD levels matter mainly for stability and long-term reliability. I’m aiming to keep everything below 1.6V for the core voltage and CPU frequency, as maintaining that will help with cooling and longevity. Overall, I’m hoping to push FSB up to around 2400 and maybe even 2600+ if conditions improve.
