Overclocking AMD fx-6300
Overclocking AMD fx-6300
I'm completely new to overclocking and had a limited budget when setting up my system. I heard that the motherboard I'm using isn't suited for extreme overclocking, which is okay. I just need guidance on keeping my overclocking safe and stable, and how to do it on my motherboard!

It's an okay overclocking board, although I've seen better. But it looks good for the price point
I wouldn't try to push the motherboard beyond its limits. A stronger power supply would also be wise before attempting overclocking.
This particular motherboard's power system isn't built for overclocking. Without knowing the exact make and model of your power supply, I can't give a definitive opinion. I wouldn't suggest overclocking for this setup.
My power supply is EVGA bronze certified. I'm aiming for a stable ~3.7-3.8Ghz without going too extreme, just that level. My overall PC power use is around 250W when under load, which is why I thought 400W would suffice. If you were to swap out my motherboard or PSU, what suggestions would you have?
I own the same chip and board, and the chip performs very well as an overclocking component. However, the motherboard isn't suitable for overclocking due to its poor VRM phase design and inadequate heatsink.
Would the MSI 970 be adequate? I'm considering purchasing a new PC for my birthday (which happened yesterday) and donating my old one to my brother. It's likely the same processor, but I'm thinking of a GTX 960/970 and an EVGA 500W power supply.
