Hi guys
I'm thinking about overclocking a 8700k using the 'Thermolab trinity' air cooler. I’m not sure what others recommend, but it’s one of the more effective air coolers from South Korea. I plan to desiccate it and apply the 'Liquid Pro' thermal paste (which sounds great for this kind of job) before pushing it up to around 5.0.
Do I need a pricier cooler like the Noctua D15 or the Macho GT? Since I’m already pretty stripped, that’s something to consider.
My setup is mainly for video editing with Adobe AE, PR, and Photoshop, so reliability is important.
I’ll be using an Asrock Extreme 4 Z370 board with three 120mm fans on the front of my case.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance
P.S. If I can’t reach 5.0, what’s the best I can get?

I believe Mike means that with a strong CPU, you can reach 5.0 without needing to lower it. The TJmax for that CPU is 100c. Running at around 75c under normal conditions is acceptable. Most users prefer keeping it below 70c, but if you aim for 5.0ghz, you'll need a powerful air cooler such as the D15, GamerStorm ASSASSIN II, or CRYORIG R1 Ultimate Dual Tower. I think the R1 stands out among the three.

When using a delid processor, ensuring optimal cooling is essential. How much overclocking are you aiming for?

I'm expecting something around 49 to 50, but it depends on the temperature. Can you clarify why I need the best cooling for a delidded processor?

When you need to delid, it usually means aiming for a high operating clock speed and that demands strong cooling. I've noticed these chips reaching 5.2GHz or higher while using robust liquid cooling systems.
